Showcasing Student Experience and Curriculum

Mountain Connection October 1, 2024

Last week the Upper School welcomed parents to campus for Fall Family Weekend. Friday shifted the normal schedule to place parents in the shoes of their kids; they participated in chores in the morning, spoke with advisors, and attended classes to hear the ins and outs of what each course entails. This year, the event occurred only a day after the first mod had officially ended, so several presentations by faculty were either immersive in consideration of the array of material that students had just completed, or forward-looking in offering a glimpse at the new courses in mod 2, which began today. Afterward, parents attended a presentation from Head of School Samantha, who spoke about the larger philosophical and global outlook of our curriculum, citing Hidden Potential by Adam Grant, which was followed by student presentations from last year’s GS trips. The entire event therefore showcased the joyful creativity and compassionate attention to the enrichment of the whole student that’s at the heart of the SMS experience.
