I know I should not be surprised, but our campus is a busy place!  The Grade 8 overnight and our first all school service day were the big highlights of the past week.  Please ask your children about their experiences if they haven’t shared them already.  This week, the Grade 6 students and I travel to Crested Butte for the week and the Grade 5 students will join other Grade 5 students from across the region at the Yampa Youth Water Festival on Wednesday.

While you will often hear my voice in this space, I plan to cede my column to others when I can.  Below, please find a compilation of the Grade 8 reflections from their overnight stay in the Flat Top Wilderness.  They intrigued and inspired me enough to bring my wife there to stay at the same campground and see the Devil’s Causeway ourselves this weekend.  Thanks for the tip, Grade 8!

 

On this field trip, we went to the Flat Tops. I learned that the Devil’s Causeway used to be wide enough to drive a jeep across, but now it’s about three to four feet wide…

This 8th grade trip, I learned to persevere. The hike up to Devil’s Causeway was steep and difficult, but the whole group pushed through and made it to the top…

It was pretty scary how high up it was, but exciting…

I was really proud of my class being able to cross the Causeway…

I really appreciated [my classmates] helping me and we really grew closer as friends…

During this trip I bonded with my fellow classmates…

I was a part of lots of interesting conversations and picked up new skills and new memories…

The trip was everything I looked forward to and more.
