SMS + SSWSC

= World Class Ski Academy Experience

Just 15 minutes from Steamboat Resort and 10 minutes from downtown’s historic Howelsen Hill, Steamboat Mountain School offers one of the very best combinations of academics and winter sports. If you are a competitive skier or rider who cares about both your grades and your podium finishes, then Steamboat Mountain School is the school and ski/snowboard program for you. Our academic offerings run in conjunction with the world-renowned Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. These student-athletes make up the largest group of competitive snow sports athletes at Steamboat Mountain School. Student-athletes come from all over the country to benefit from the combination of training with a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Gold Certified Club and receiving a world-class education at Steamboat Mountain School

“We first moved for the excellent winter sports training program for our child. We researched our options for high school and chose SMS because of small class sizes and experiential learning opportunities. SMS has provided him such a strong educational experience, we now feel that we truly moved to Steamboat so that he could attend this amazing school.” -Parent ’24

In 2023, U.S. Ski & Snowboard honored SSWSC with 2023 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Club of the Year, Alpine Club of the Year, and Freestyle Club of the Year. This is the fifth time SSWSC has been honored with Club of the Year, more than any other club in the United States.

Of particular interest to Steamboat Mountain School is Krill’s extensive background in the integration of academics and competitive athletics. The school, founded in 1957, offers a comprehensive K-12 independent education with day and boarding options for upper school students. The unique modular schedule for upper school students enables student-athletes to pursue academic interests while accommodating the demands of competitive skiing or riding. At a recent information session at Steamboat Mountain School, Krill expressed enthusiasm about the modular schedule, stating, “The schedule will allow our winter athletes more flexibility throughout the entire year, enabling them to cultivate their training, competition, travel, and academic schedules to ensure their success both on the hill and in the classroom.’
