Come Together!

The Connection, May 16, 2022

The SMS community hit the weekend running last Friday with the spring “Come Together” auction. As a culmination to the year’s giving campaign, and centered on a Rock-and-Roll theme (which showcased an array of creative outfits from multiple eras), the event raised funds for the tuition assistance program, by which a sizable portion of our students benefit and that stands as testament to the school’s generosity. This year, the event was held at Slopeside, and nearly 200 people gathered for drinks, food, a silent auction, live auction, and live performances by The Brian Smith Band. As a special treat, Steamboat’s own living legend Cookie Lockhart, Hall of Fame Auctioneer served as the auctioneer, and her experience in the profession certainly worked in wrangling proceeds. The official tallies are still coming in, though early estimates suggest that the event raised over $80,000, all of which will go toward supporting our students and making our community stronger. Event guru Kristen Heard said, “It was a great success. I’d like to offer a huge thank-you to everyone who attended, and especially to our auction chairs: Chris Johnson, Selina Hientz and Dani Thomas, and to Decorating Chair Lindsay Rother.”
