Emerald Connection September 3, 2024

The inaugural Middle School Leadership Retreat has wrapped up in a flash! Despite the stormy weather, students and faculty adapted with flexibility, finding new activities and locations across the Mountain Campus to ensure the campout’s success. The retreat provided both an exciting and enriching experience for students.

The adventure kicked off with a game on Lowell’s Lawn, followed by a hike to South Pasture. As the weather began to shift, plans were quickly adapted. Sophie Coolidge remarked, “I was very impressed with the middle school students’ ability to persevere through adverse conditions and a constantly changing itinerary. Their response in this situation is a testament to the SMS core value of purposeful exploration.”

Throughout the retreat, students engaged in campus care projects, games, and team-building activities. Their ultimate goal was to organize the first Emerald Campus all-school meeting of the year. Sophie added, “The students pulled together an all-school meeting that set a strong precedent for our community this school year.”

The retreat concluded with an energetic and thoughtful closing circle at the Mountain Campus on Thursday evening. We are excited to see where these young leaders will take our K-8 community this year.
