Linville's Ridge Print Release

Well worn from decades of students running to class, all school announcements, graduation and more, it’s time to renovate the stairs in the Steamboat Mountain School Charlie Williams Lodge (main building).

In order to make this happen, Steamboat Mountain School partnered with local artist and parent of an alumni, Lance Whitner. Through Lance’s unique painting style, she has created an image from the top of Linville’s Ridge, overlooking Steamboat Mountain School’s South Pasture and into the Yampa Valley. The proceeds from print sales will support the renovation of the stairs. Similar to the stairs project in the Craig-Scheckman Student Education Center at Steamboat Mountain School, pictured below. The painting will be split into partitions for the stairs.

Canvas print sizes will have a 40″ x 26″ image with an additional 2” border on all sides of canvas to allow for stretching. Most local frame shops will stretch and frame. Canvas prints can be hung framed or unframed but will need to be stretched. These prints will be signed and titled on the back side of the canvas. Prints will be made after Release is completed. Printing, signing, rolling tubing take about a month, estimated ship date of 3-4 weeks after release. You will receive an email with tracking once your order is on its way.

The canvas prints will go on sale for only 5 days, May 2 – May 6. About the artist.

What is Linville's Ridge?

Linville’s Ridge is named for Jim Linville. Jim initiated the creation of the ridge trail that overlooks South Pasture and the Yampa Valley from the Steamboat Mountain School Mountain Campus. Linville’s Ridge was one of his favorite spots to walk his dogs, Ruby and Deso.

James Richardson “Jim” Linville (September 19, 1947 – April 19, 2021) was a dedicated educator, environmentalist, and community leader in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Jim devoted over two decades to teaching at The Lowell Whiteman School (now Steamboat Mountain School), where he was known for his passion for education and mentorship. Beyond the classroom, he was an avid mountaineer and a committed volunteer with Routt County Search and Rescue, contributing significantly to the safety and well-being of the local community.
