Handmade with Heart

Emerald Connection, December 19

The halls of Steamboat Mountain School are buzzing with creativity as our Lower and Middle School students prepare for one of our most cherished traditions: the School Sibling Homemade Gift Exchange.

This long-standing SMS tradition celebrates connection, thoughtfulness, and imagination. Each student creates a homemade gift for their school sibling, something meaningful that reflects what they know and appreciate about one another. Rather than focusing on cost, the emphasis is on creativity and care, encouraging students to think deeply, problem-solve, and express themselves through making.

Over the years, students have delighted their siblings with everything from handmade games and toys to carefully crafted art projects. The process itself is just as important as the exchange.

The celebration continues after the gift exchange with a Holiday Brunch, bringing students and faculty together to share food and conversation. The morning concludes with our Winter Concert, where student musicians showcase their hard work and add a festive soundtrack to the day.

Together, these moments capture the heart of the SMS community: creativity, connection, and shared celebration!
