Joanie Davis grew up outside Chicago, Illinois. She spent the winter months cross country skiing with chocolate labs and playing pond hockey in the park. She graduated from Colgate University in 2015, majoring in Geography and Political Science. Maps are her passion; she’s curious about viewing and portraying the world through different lenses. In college, she was a member of the club ski team and improv group, Charred Goosebeak. Over the years, Joanie has worked in a variety of places. Her Geography major and travel experience led her to work as a travel consultant specializing in Africa. During the summers, she led high school backpacking and adventure trips. Her love for working with high schoolers encouraged her to make the leap into education full-time. At High Mountain Institute, she was the English Apprentice while also leading three expeditions and fulfilling residential life duties. Joanie is elated to be part of the Steamboat Mountain School family. She’ll be teaching History and Residential Head. In her free time, you’ll find Joanie outside playing in the mountains, whittling spoons for her loved ones, getting lost in a Haruki Murakami novel, or cheering on the Chicago Cubs.
