Linville's Ridge Print Release
Take advantage of the opportunity for you to own this exceptional view of the Yampa Valley from the Steamboat Mountain School campus atop Linville’s Ridge.
Steamboat Mountain School and local artist and parent of an alumni, Lance Whitner, are bringing you the second release of the Linville’s Ridge prints. Through Lance’s unique painting style, she has created an image from the top of Linville’s Ridge, overlooking Steamboat Mountain School’s South Pasture and into the Yampa Valley. The proceeds from print sales will support our unique and world-class educational programs and the teachers who deliver these programs at SMS.
The print will have a 22″ x 14″ image with an additional 1” border on all sides of the Somerset Velvet watercolor paper to allow for framing. Paper prints can be hung framed or unframed. These prints will be signed and titled on the back side of the print. Prints will be made after the Release is completed. Printing, signing, and rolling tubing take about a month, estimated ship date of 2-4 weeks after the Release. You will receive an email with tracking once your order is on its way.
Each paper print is $200, and a discount will be applied for orders of 2 or more.
The paper prints will go on sale for only 4 days during from December 8 to December 11. About the artist.
2017 & 2025 Stairway Projects
The staircase in the Craig-Scheckman Student Education Center, completed in 2017, was designed in collaboration with local artist Lance Whitner. This creative partnership brought an artistic touch to the space, blending functionality with vibrant, community-inspired design. In 2025, this same artistic touch was applied to enhance the rustic elegance of the Charley Williams Lodge while also creating a beautiful memorial to Jim Linville.
What is Linville's Ridge?
Linville’s Ridge is named for Jim Linville. Jim initiated the creation of the ridge trail that overlooks South Pasture and the Yampa Valley from the Steamboat Mountain School Mountain Campus. Linville’s Ridge was one of his favorite spots to walk his dogs, Ruby and Deso.
James Richardson “Jim” Linville (September 19, 1947 – April 19, 2021) was a dedicated educator, environmentalist, and community leader in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Jim devoted over two decades to teaching at The Lowell Whiteman School (now Steamboat Mountain School), where he was known for his passion for education and mentorship. Beyond the classroom, he was an avid mountaineer and a committed volunteer with Routt County Search and Rescue, contributing significantly to the safety and well-being of the local community.
