Trenia grew up here in Steamboat on her family’s horse and cattle ranch. She recently rejoined the school for the second time as Director of Technology. She also teaches Computer Graphics which produces the school yearbook and as well as a tech education class. Trenia is a third generation Steamboat Mountain School teacher. Her great Uncle Joe helped Lowell Whiteman (the school’s founder) develop the first outdoor program in the 40’s which featured horses, and her mother taught physical education here in the 60s helping Lowell add skiing to the school’s program. In the late 90’s, then Head of School brought Trenia in to take over the technology and the horses because “because they’re so similar,” she jokes. She has a BS from University of Colorado, Boulder, and spent much of her career in tech and publishing as well as 14 years in education. Managing large technology departments, managing software and web development projects led her to focusing on the people element. “There might be challenges with technology and processes, but in the end, it’s always first and foremost about people and relationships.” The led to helping companies develop a culture of cooperation, combining Agile development methodology and Positive Psychology. “If people are happy in their lives and in their jobs, they thrive. Companies thrive. I first learned that here watching the faculty using experiential and the school’s unique philosophies, transforming humans in and out of the classroom. It’s magic!”
