Lucy Barnes joins Steamboat Mountain School as a Teacher in Residence, bringing a passion for inquiry-based science education and outdoor learning. A recent graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology while serving as a Teaching Assistant for the university’s introductory biology program and as a tutor in both molecular biology and Spanish. During her time at UC Santa Cruz, Lucy also collaborated with faculty to develop and publish an innovative genetics curriculum designed to make science learning more engaging and accessible. Fluent in Spanish and committed to student-centered learning, she is especially interested in helping students build confidence and see themselves as capable scientists. An avid backpacker, trail runner, and mountain enthusiast, Lucy has spent many summers exploring Colorado’s high country.
