Eloise Johnson joins Steamboat Mountain School as a Teacher in Residence, bringing a strong foundation in environmental science, outdoor leadership, and experiential education. A recent graduate of Middlebury College, she earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Earth and Climate Science and Religious Studies, where she also served as a Teaching Assistant in Hydrology and collaborated with the Vermont Geological Survey on landslide hazard research and community resilience strategies. Eloise is passionate about connecting scientific inquiry with real-world challenges and helping students develop a deeper understanding of the natural world through hands-on learning. Outside the classroom, she has spent four summers leading wilderness expeditions for Camp Manito-wish, including a 25-day backpacking expedition through Idaho’s Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, where she mentored students in leadership, resilience, teamwork, and backcountry skills. She has also worked as a ski instructor, holds Wilderness First Responder certification, and enjoys backcountry skiing, canoeing, and playing bluegrass and Irish fiddle.
