Ana Spencer

Teacher in Residence

University of Vermont, M.A., B.A.

Ana is an educator, writer, and lifelong lover of skiing. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Vermont (2025), where she also earned her B.A. in English with a minor in Public Communication. While at UVM, she graduated with honors and was named a finalist in the English Symposium for Fiction — a nod to her passion for storytelling and creativity. Ana believes teaching is a lot like gardening: with care, patience, and the right conditions, every student can thrive. She’s committed to creating inclusive, joyful learning environments where students feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow. Before stepping into the classroom, Ana spent years as a youth ski instructor in Vermont and skied competitively. While at UVM, she was an active member of Chicks on Sticks, a group of female-identifying and nonbinary skiers and riders advocating for accessibility and inclusivity in the outdoors. Through that work, she helped raise funds to support adaptive recreation programs. As an alumna of Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY, she knows the magic of close-knit, mountain-town boarding school communities, and she’s thrilled to return to a similar environment at Steamboat Mountain School this year.
