Why SMS?
I am passionate about the Steamboat Mountain School and what it offers its students and our community. It is a school that celebrates each student for the unique individual they are and helps(supports) them on their journey to discovering who that is.  I am grateful for the staff and teachers ( or just staff including both)  who lead with unwavering commitment and heart, and hope through my work on the board to give back to the school and these incredible individuals.

Background
Millie moved to Steamboat Springs in 1990 after graduating from Colorado College. She worked on the Steamboat ski patrol for eight years prior to attending the Physician Assistant Program at Duke University. She returned to Steamboat after graduating and worked in family medicine for 21 years and now works as a psychiatric PA in private practice. Millie and her husband Gardner met in Steamboat and feel fortunate to have raised their two children, Bode and Merritt, in Steamboat. Bode graduated from SMS in 2021 and is a sophomore at Boston College, where he skis competitively for the Eagles. Merritt is a junior at SMS and in the ski/ride program as an alpine racer.

Millie’s passion for SMS runs deep, having had many connections to the school in her 33 years in Steamboat, culminating with their children attending SMS. Millie feels strongly about the heart of the school and what she describes as the magic of SMS, which she and her family feel so fortunate to be a part of. Millie is in her second year as the co-chair for the Steamboat Mountain School Fund and also serves on the SMS Development Committee.
