Emma grew up in the northwoods of Minnesota, where she spent every summer canoeing into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, a place that first instilled in her a passion for experiential education and learning. Emma then moved to Maine where she attended Colby College, studying Anthropology with minors in Creative Writing and Educational Studies. Emma also received her teaching certification in Social Studies and Language Arts while at Colby. After graduating from Colby, Emma taught 8th grade English in Westbrook, Maine. Here, she practiced an empathetic, student-centered approach and developed a passion for cultivating inclusive educational spaces where students could feel supported and thrive. She also worked two summers leading biking and backpacking trips for middle schoolers in the U.S and Canada. In her free time you can find her out on a bike ride, run, or ski, writing poetry, or playing the ukulele. She is excited to help facilitate an inclusive and positive learning environment with the team at Steamboat Mountain School!
